AJAX – Asynchronous JavaScript and XML – this is a web programming practice in JS (JavaScript) which makes it possible for portions of a web page to reload directly from the server without the need of reloading the entire page.
ASP – Active Server Pages – this is a back-end algorithm that was used by Microsoft to generate dynamic web pages, but it has since then been replaced by ASP.NET.
ASPX – this is a file extension (.aspx) representing files that have been built on ASP.NET framework.
CSS3 – This is basically the 3rd gen of the already mentioned CSS and it represents the new abilities that have been added to CSS.
CSV – Comma Separated Values – is a format meant for storing tabulated data.
DNS – Domain Name System – this is what creates a link between the domain name you enter in your web browser and the IP address in which the site is located. In Layman’s language, a DNS is the internet’s “phonebook”.
DOM – Document Object Model – this is a concept used by JS to access the hierarchy of all HTML elements on a given web page.
DTD – Document Type Definition – This is one or two lines of code that is located at the top of the markup language doc such as XML or HTML. It defines the language as well as the standard the doc adheres to.
ECMAScript – this is a family of script languages that are used in Adobe Flash, for instance, JS and ActionScript.
FTP – File Transfer Protocol – this is a system that is used for uploading media files to a web page.
GIF – Graphics Interchange Format – this is a very common image format used on the web today. The USP of GIFs is the fact that they are usually animated.
DHTML – This is Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language and even though it is kind of old school, it refers to the use of CSS, HTML and JS to create websites that are dynamic and interactive.
